Jo is a Professor of Visual Analytics and and founding member of the giCentre. He has been involved in teaching and research in GI Science and visualization since 1990 and was head of Computer Science at City University between 2015 and 2018.. His research interests range from visual design to visual analytics, from transport visualization to terrain modelling and visual storytelling to cartography. He is author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications and software including litvis, elm-vega / elm-vegalite, giCentre Utils, handy and  the LandSerf GIS.
